Concrete Fence Installation Steps
Precast concrete fence panels are a popular choice for home and business owners looking for alternative options to traditional block built walls or wooden fences.
The installation process for precast concrete fence panels is quite similar to that of wooden fences in terms of site preparation and timeframe. The main benefits are their long term durability and low maintenance for years to come.
It is worth noting that while the installation of precast concrete fence systems is a relatively straightforward process, the panels are heavy and may require a few people to lift and place them. If you are uncertain about any of the steps, it may be best to hire a professional contractor to handle the installation for you.
Installing concrete fence panels on flat ground
-
Mark out and dig the post holes
Measure the length of the fence area and mark out where the post holes are going. Post holes are dug to a minimum depth of 800mm – 1m. Each hole should be dug at 2.150m centres. Spacers could be cut at panel sizes out of 2×1 timber for easier installation of centres.
-
Set the posts
Set the posts in the holes and fill in with concrete. Allow at least 24 hours for the concrete to set. Place H-post in centre of hole and use 2×1 space to ensure correct position and level. Prop and level H-post vertically from both sides and backfill with minimum 30 newton lean concrete mix.
-
Insert the fence panels onto the posts
Place one panel between each H-post to ensure correct spacing. This will help with overall stability. Depending on temperature and weather condition it is advisable to leave the lean mix to cure for seven days and cover with plastic. Do not install fencing system in stormy weather.
Use adhesive such as Sikaflex or Tec 7 in the vertical groove of H-post on both sides before placing each panel. Any excess can be cut off with a knife once cured. Also place adhesive on top of each panel before placing the next one. Cut off any excess.
Slide the panels into the grooves on the posts from the top. Repeat until the entire concrete fence is installed.
-
Place cappings on the posts
Place adhesive on top of H-post and last wall panel before installing both H-post cap and wall cap. Leave to cure and cut of any excess
Installing concrete fence panels on sloped/uneven ground
- Start from the top of the slope and work down hill.
- Depending on slope each hole for H-post will be deeper to the previous depending on slope.
- Continue procedure of installing H-post system as previously explained.
- The first panel can be backfilled or both sides with lean mix ensure both sides are backfilled evenly. This will help with overall stability.
