Lockstone Maxi is made from natural slates and quartzites and is particularly versatile in its uses. The random mix of larger and smaller stones, with a thicker profile create an especially stunning finish on larger areas. The range comes in Z-shaped panels that fit together seamlessly and also corner pieces to suit all types of room and walls.
Lockstone Slender box consisting of 7 x 600mm x 150mm flat ‘Z’ panels.
Each box covers 0.58m2
FIXING:
- Lockstone can be fixed either: a. directly onto concrete block walls or b. approved heavy duty building board (deemed to support over 60kg/m2 for Lockstone Maxi and 45kg/m2 for Lockstone Slender) Lockstone should not be attached onto plaster, Gypsum board or painted walls as the weight of the panels is likely to pull this from the wall. It is important to remove any debris and dust to ensure a secure fixing.
- To calculate where to begin tiling, measure the height of the wall and divide by the height of the particular Lockstone panel (150mm or 250mm). Fix a wooden baton on the wall at a level to leave space for an integer number of panels above. Ensure the baton is level. (The wooden baton can be removed and the space filled using offcuts when the adhesive has completely set). If tiling an external corner, start with the corner and work toward the centre of the wall (alternating the position of the long and short corner pieces to create the most seamless finish). Tiling should not be done in weather below 5oC or over 32oC.
- Many adhesives will require the stone and substrate to be sealed before the adhesive is applied. Please consult the manufacture’s guidelines. (The use of a Masonry Grab Adhesive such as XcelTM avoids the need for sealing the stone first). Depending on the usage, we recommend the following adhesives:
- for external use (both Slender & Maxi) – using a good quality masonry tile adhesive it is important to ensure surfaces of both the wall and panel are completely covered using a notched trowel. Press the panel into the wall and slide slightly into position. The use of a rubber mallet and occasionally removing a panel to ensure no air bubbles is advised. Clean the edge of each panel from any excess tile adhesive to ensure tiles fit neatly together without leaving a gap.
- for internal use (both Slender & Maxi) – use a good quality flexible masonry tile adhesive. Lockstone recommend XcelTM Masonry Grab Adhesive, applying 5 vertical evenly spaced beads at the back of each panel.
- a temperature resistant (both Slender & Maxi) tile adhesive is strongly advised when placing near fireplaces, keeping tiles far enough away so as not to exceed 100oC. Lockstone recommend PalaceTM Heat Resistant Tile Adhesive. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- A table saw or grinder can be used to cut the panels, although particular care should be taken and appropriate safety googles and clothing worn. Cut the panels to leave the Z shape to ensure a seamless finish.
- It is important to use the built-in fixing strips if attaching Lockstone Maxi panels above 2.5m. Fixing of the Lockstone Slender panels is not advised over 2.5m high. These should be used in conjunction with the adhesives outlined above.
